It's a Wynne by Mississippi Magazine

I'm so thrilled to be featured in the September/October issue of Mississippi Magazine that I'm on cloud 9! And it couldn't have come at a better time... we're hitting the road this week for a Mississippi road trip, and you're invited! Find the feature below, and check out our road trip stops in between!
Jenni Brown, “It's a Wynne,” Mississippi Magazine, September/October Issue 2014.
A native of Austin, Texas, Kelly Wynne White—now Kelly Wynne Ferguson after her recent nuptials—always claimed Mississippi as her “home away from home.” With family in Clarksdale, Greenwood, and Jackson, she grew up coming to Mississippi for Ole Miss football games, considering herself “more of a Mississippi girl,” but making it official when she decided to go to Ole Miss for college.
Though her graphic-design degree and marketing minor have certainly proved invaluable to Kelly’s professional career, it was her friends at Ole Miss who helped inspire her to become a handbag designer. She says that she was always the go-to girl when her friends needed to be accessorized, and that she’d always joke about “when I have my own handbag line one day,” hardly imaging the kind of success she’d find now, just over a year after her line launched in April 2013.
The line began development as most do, with Kelly sketching during her free time. One of these original sketches includes the sleek logo that now adorns each of her bags, in the shape of a sideway K atop an upright W. Her bags’ linings hold another trademark, as they are all fully lined in Kelly green.
Proactive and enthusiastic, Kelly set out to make her dreams reality, setting up meetings with designers and talking “to anyone who would connect me to anyone,” Kelly recounts. She gained immense knowledge from these personal connections, learning about materials, manufacturing, and all the elements that go into producing designer handbags.
Her own unique design, which was inspired by exotic stingray skins, is achieved through “a unique transfer process of applying a clear, metallic, or color to suede,” mimicking those exotic leathers with durability and style. Kelly’s fun personality is evident not only in the designs of her bags, perfectly mixing luxe colors with subtle animal skins, but also in the individual names of her bags. Her instagram account @shopkellywynne, flaunts sneak peeks of bags like the “Mingle Mingle Mini,” “Pop the Champagne Shoulder,” and the “Cloud 9 Clutch.”
In the spirit of giving back to those who have given to her, Kelly’s newest lines of handbags are directly inspired by her loved ones. Her “AfterGlow” collection, an evening-bag line, contains bags named for her bridesmaids, honorary bridesmaids, mother of the bride and groom, and so on. She designed each bag specifically to give her loved  ones at her bridesmaids’ luncheon, before her July 5 wedding. Kelly says that the bridesmaid bag collection is the most special to her, because of the fabric was creatively designed to mimic the navy lace of her bridesmaids’ dresses, and a sweet way to use her talents to honor the people she loves on such a special day.
Her other upcoming line, called “Metallic Straight-Up,” was inspired by the popularity of her previous metallic designs but moves forward, “pushing customers to think outside the box,” by using edgier rose golds, coopers, and other gold metallics. There is hot anticipation for the release of these fall collections, as Kelly Wynne designs have gained immense popularity, even earning her the “Rising Star Award” at the Austin Fashion Awards during this year’s Austin Fashion Week.
Kelly proudly points out that her bags are made in the USA and are sold in Mississippi at Cicada in Oxford, Coattails in Ridgeland, Grants for Her in Biloxi, Pink Zinnia in Hernando, and the Taylor Collection in Madison. Cicada in Oxford will also host a Kelly Wynne trunk show October 10-12.
